How does Karanba finance its activities?

In the first 3 years since its inception in 2006, Karanba was funded through Tommy Nilsen's personal savings, as well as contributions from friends and acquaintances in Norway. From 2008, Karanba received financial support from business partners, and from 2011, the organization entered into long-term sponsorship agreements with several Norwegian companies engaged in commercial activities in Brazil, such as Statoil, Aker Solutions, and Solstad Offshore.

In 2013, for the first time, Karanba received support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a relationship that continued for the next 6 years. In 2017, the organization entered into a long-term agreement with Wang ToppIdrett, which is currently the organization's largest Norwegian financial supporter. Since 2015, as an approved Brazilian non-profit association, Karanba has received funds through the Brazilian tax incentive law "Lei Incentivo."

In 2019, this became a significant source of income after the Brazilian bank ITAU and the infrastructure company ENEL became Karanba partners. Throughout its existence, Karanba has had a substantial portion of long-term and loyal financial supporters, which has been crucial for the organization's development and achievements. Today, the organization relies on roughly equal contributions from Brazil and Norway (Karanba Norge).

In Norway, the organization receives support from three main areas: educational institutions, businesses, and individual donors. All fundraising in Norway is conducted through the non-profit association Karanba Norge, and currently, it is solely done through voluntary unpaid work. This ensures that over 95% of all funds raised go directly to the project in Brazil. Karanba's long-term goal is to achieve economic sustainability in Brazil. The purchase of its own land in 2023 is an important milestone in creating the conditions for this goal.
